Heavy Rainfall in India.

 

India Meteorological Department or the Weather Department has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and West Bengal. An orange alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in remote areas of Uttarakhand. 

Seventy-six person have lost their lives since the onset of the Monsoon in the state of 'Mumbai'. This also affected natural calamities such as lightning strikes, landslides, treefalls, floods, structure collapse, etc. According to the SDM report, so far 839 houses have been damaged while over 4916 people have been shifted to safe places as heavy rain is continuously falling in most parts of the states. Parshuram Ghat a section of the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Ratnagiri District has closed till12 July. The state government has provided 13 National Disaster Relief Force teams across the state including two in, Mumbai at Ghatkopar and Kanjumarg. Drainage systems are built for an evenly spread-out monsoon. but, in recent years Mumbai has seen some very heavy rain followed by dry spells, and then very heavy rain again. In most cities across the world, at least half the water percolates into the ground. In Mumbai, 90 percent of the stormwater is drained out through dedicated drains. That puts added pressure on the drainage system.    

Normal life was thrown out of gear in the south Bengal district and parts of Odisha as rain triggered by depression caused hardship to commuters on the first day of work. It was seen in the forecast that heavy rainfall in  Kolkata, Howrah, and West Bengal is till 14 September.  Several parts of Rajasthan are likely to receive moderate-heavy rainfall, similarly in the district of Bikaner and Jodhpur division also going to suffer heavy rainfall for3-4 days. The flood situation has worsened in Bihar, where a person used a makeshift boat to carry a patient to a hospital. People in a flood-affected village in Bhagalpur districtThe cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal will bring heavy rain in Gangetic West Bengal in the southern part of the state till Thursday morning, the Met department said in its forecast. Most of the districts in south Bengal are likely to receive heavy rain, accompanied by gusty wind reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour.

According to IMD, isolated heavy rainfall along with Thunderstorms, and lightning are likely in Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. Due to this heavy rainfall, many places in the above states are suffering from Damage to houses, Deaths of people, it also affects so many natural Calamities.In the past decade, the field of extreme event attributes has made great strides in understanding and explaining extreme events in the context of climate change. This is still an emerging science, however thus continued research is required to increase the reliability of event attribute results, particularly for event type that are presently poorly understood.
